Michael Aram Introduces Newest Collection, Black Iris

Posted by David Lindberg on

New York, NY, SUMMER 2020—The American artist, renowned for his unique, nature-inspired home décor and tabletop accessories, introduces his newest collection, Black Iris.

INSPIRATION BEHIND THE COLLECTION

The Black Iris Collection is inspired by the vitality and beauty of the iris flower. Named after the Greek word for rainbow, the idea of a “black rainbow” feels oxymoronic and mysterious. Michael uses contrasting oxidized and polished brass, as his way of doubting the question of whether there is such a thing as an iris which is truly black in nature.

"I am fascinated with the beauty and mystery of black irises. They are symbolic of wisdom, courage, and admiration. Given as gifts, they convey deep sentiments", said Founder and CEO Michael Aram.

MATERIALS IN COLLECTION

  • Natural & Oxidized Brass
  • Stainless Steel
  • Marble

ABOUT MICHAEL ARAM

Michael Aram creates beautiful and distinctive objects for the home. After taking what would later be a life-altering trip to India in 1989 where he discovered rich metalworking traditions, Aram turned his artistic vision towards craft-based design, setting up a home and workshop in New Delhi. Although he is most recognized for his signature metal gift and tabletop offerings, he also designs large-scale sculptures, furniture, lighting, home fragrance, textiles, porcelain and fine jewelry. Aram splits his time between his workshop in India and his New York City studio.
